Westminster Town Hall Forum
Spring 2009 Season
Forums are held from noon to 1:00pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Nicollet Mall and 12th Street, in downtown Minneapolis. Each forum is preceded by a concert at 11:30am. A reception in the Great Hall and a small group discussion in the Bates Room follow the forum from 1:00 to 2:00pm.
Minnesota Public Radio broadcasts the Forum on its News and Information stations. To accommodate the seating need of classes or large groups, please call the Town Hall Forum at 612.332.3421. Convenient parking is available across the street from Westminster at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and at Orchestra Hall ramp, Marquette Avenue and 11th Street.

Eboo Patel
Interfaith Understanding in a Time of Religious Crisis
Eboo Patel is founder and Executive Director of the Interfaith Youth Core, a Chicago-based nonprofit committed to building mutual respect and understanding among religiously diverse young people. He holds a doctorate in the sociology of religion from Oxford University. He serves on the Religious Advisory Committee of the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Committee of the Aga Khan Foundation USA, and the National Board of the YMCA. Gwen Ifill is moderator and managing editor for PBS’ Washington Week and senior correspondent for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. During the 2008 campaign, she moderated the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin. Before coming to PBS, she worked for NBC News as chief congressional and political correspondent. She has reported for The New York Times, Washington Post, Baltimore Evening Sun, and Boston Herald American. She is the author of the book The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. Tom Gjelten
National Security Challenges Facing the Obama Administration
Tom Gjelten is the National Security Correspondent for NPR, reporting on defense policy, military affairs, terrorism, and espionage. He has covered the wars in Central and South America, the Persian Gulf, and Croatia and Bosnia, and has reported on the transition to democracy and capitalism in Eastern Europe and the break-up of the Soviet Union. He appears regularly on the PBS program Washington Week and has written for The New Republic, the New York Times, and the Washington Post. His latest book is Bacardi and the Long Fight for Cuba. Barbara Brown Taylor
Downtime: The Sacred Art of Stopping
Barbara Brown Taylor is widely recognized as one of America’s most eloquent preachers. Ordained an Episcopal priest in 1984, she holds the Harry R. Butman Chair in Religion and Philosophy at Piedmont College in Georgia and is adjunct professor of Christian spirituality at Columbia Theological Seminary. She is the author of twelve books on faith, culture, and spirituality, including Leaving Church and An Altar in the World.
