Responding Faithfully: Stewardship 2009

We are delighted to share leadership in Westminster’s 2009 Stewardship Program. This year’s stewardship theme, Responding Faithfully, RespondingFaithfullyFINALcame to the committee as we reflected on what guides our own stewardship of all God has given us. We concluded that our job as believers, put most simply, is to respond faithfully.
     As our congregation moves through the fall we will hear from Westminster members, in worship and elsewhere, about their their personal faithful responses. From teaching in Church School to volunteering on a Habitat for Humanity house to singing in the choir to serving on a local non-profit board, our church is with God’s children of all ages who have chosen to respond faithfully in many different ways. Sometimes those ways are part of a church program; sometimes responding faithfully happens at home or at school or work, or in volunteer service in the community.
     Supporting Westminster financially is one concrete way we respond faithfully to God’s goodness to us. Each of us will be given a chance to do that on Stewardship Sunday, November 23, when we will be asked to turn in pledge cards for 2009. We hope you begin thinking now about how you might respond faithfully; your generous commitment makes possible the faithful response of Westminster to the needs of those in our community and around the world.
     In the midst of the turmoil of our time, we are both deeply grateful to have our church as a stable, steady presence in our lives. At Westminster we experience the love of God day by day, week to week, and generation after generation. Responding faithfully to God, we do our part to share God’s love and make a difference in the world.

IRA Tax Ruling on Contributions 
Did you know that if you are over 70 ½ years old, you are allowed to make a charitable contribution to Westminster using your IRA’s required distribution without tax on that distribution? This provision in the IRS tax code may be advantageous as you plan for contributions to Westminster in 2008 and 2009. Read more...
