Nursery and Toddlers

A nursery is defined as a place where children are temporarily cared for in their parents' absence. Our purpose, therefore, is to provide quality care for the children among us in a safe, nurturing environment, reflecting God's love, care and concern

Fall Into Fellowship – a Nursery Families Potluck

Save the date! Sunday, October 3 is the date set for our second annual “Fall Into Fellowship” Nursery Families Potluck. We’ll gather after worship until 1:00 for food, fellowship and fun! More details to follow… Please RSVP by Wednesday, September 29 at mkruskop@wpc-mpls.org or 763-535-8973.

Bill Doherty, PhD, to speak October 10 during Education Hour

William Doherty, a well-known writer and speaker on family life in our contemporary culture, will speak on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at Westminster during the education hour.  His talk entitled Parenting Wisely in a Too Much of Everything World, will address the overload of things, activities, and sometimes hidden adenda from media images that can too easily dominate family life and time.  Dr. Doherty is a professor in the Department of Social Science at the University of Minnesota, past director of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program there, and a practicing marriage and family therapist.

Parents of all ages and of all ages of children and youth will find this topic timely, informative, and challenging.  In addition to Dr. Doherty's talk, a follow up discussion is scheduled for Saturday, November 6th from 10am to noon, to help parents discover what means they can use to encourage the growth and health of their own families.  Childcare will be provided.

 Nursery Programs

In our efforts to reach out to families with young children, providing both opportunities for fellowship and faith building, we are offering a number of new programs and activities in the nursery.

Moms Group
Moms Group begins Thursday, September 16 and meets in the Nursery from 9:30-11:00. We will read and discuss Harold Kushner’s The Lord is My Shepherd – Healing Wisdom of the Twenty-Third Psalm. The purpose of Moms Group is to build community among moms with children of any age in an effort to support and affirm one another along the parenting journey. Our hope is to provide an opportunity for conversation and fellowship as well as a place to be mindful of our spirituality. There is no charge to take part though participants do provide their own books. Childcare is provided (please register so we know how many children to expect!) For more information and to register, contact Marie Kruskop at mkruskop@wpc-mpls.org or 763-535-8973.

Nursery Families Fellowship – each Sunday in the Bushnell Room
Nursery Families Fellowship, a time for parents of young children to get to know one another and talk about topics of interest to young parents, meets each Sunday during Education Hour at 9:30 in the Bushnell Room. The first Sunday of each month will focus on Positive Discipline ideas and activities while the remaining Sundays of each month will be more informal times of gathering to share the joys and concerns of parent young children. Please join us!

Make a Joyful Noise
Make a Joyful Noise is a time of music and movement for the wee ones. It happens on Sundays in the Nursery at 9:30 twice a month and is led by Brad Ollmann, Director of Early Childhood Music. Look for dates posted outside the Nursery.

Parent-Child Time Together
Parent-Child Time Together is a time for parents and siblings of Cherubs (or Cherub-aged children) to spend time together on Wednesday evenings from about 6:00 (after announcements at dinner) until 7:00. Once Cherub Choir is over, the Cherubs are welcome to join their families for a bit of play time before heading home to bed. We offer a “focus” activity though encourage parents to follow their child’s lead during this time together. (Nursery care for children infants through age 4 continues until 8:00 on Wednesday evenings.)

Cherub Choir
Once your child turns three years old, he or she is eligible to join the Cherub choir. The Cherubs meet from 6:00 – 6:25 on Wednesday evenings, but many families come to the refectory at around 5:15 or 5:30 to enjoy a kid friendly meal with other families before choir. Cherubs range from 3-5 years old. Please let Brad Ollmann know if you have any questions about Cherub choir. Every participant is very special to him and he would be honored to be the director who welcomes your child into the world of choral singing
