Adult Education
Christian faith is ‘on the ground’ and ‘where we live.’ Jesus spoke about real issues and how God desired for people to integrate their beliefs with the challenges of life. Westminster’s Adult Education program, Education for Faith and Life, takes the same view. Our faith must speak to the things we grapple with in the real world. To that end, Adult Education at Westminster provides opportunities for you to learn and grow in faith in a way that will make a difference in your life and in our world. Classes meet Sundays, 9:15am-10:15am, and Wednesdays, 6:30pm-8:00pm, in the Meisel Room. Childcare is available for both times.
Education for Faith & Life
"Who Do You Say That I Am?" Taking Jesus Seriously is the Education for Faith and Life theme for 2008-2009. In a post-modern, post-Christian world, Jesus has been relegated to the religious right by many mainline, progressive Christians. And yet Jesus is the focal point of our faith. What can we learn about him through the Gospels, theological teaching of the church, perspectives of other faith traditions, art, literature, and film? If we are to follow Jesus Christ, we must engage his question to his disciples, and to us, "Who do you say that I am?" View the 2008-2009 Education for Faith & Life catalog.

Topic: The African Jesus
Speakers: Panel of Westminster’s African Members
Date: Wednesday, January 7
The global center of Christianity has dramatically shifted from the Northern Hemisphere
to the global South. What do these countries have to teach us about Jesus without a
Northern, Western cultural bias? Members of Westminster’s African community will
share their experiences of learning about Jesus while growing up in Africa and how
Christianity is played out in African culture.
Topic: Jesus, Hope, and Pop Culture
Speaker: Dr. Andy Root, Luther Seminary
Dates: Wednesdays, January 14, 21
This seminar will examine how hope, promise, and fulfillment are presented in pop culture.
We will see how these pop culture perspectives connect with images of Jesus and
whether they have anything in common with our theological understanding of the hope,
promise, and fulfillment brought forth by the crucified Christ. Several Westminster youth
will interact on week 2.
